Lip filler — also known as lip augmentation — uses hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the body, to add volume, definition and shape to the lips. At Revitalise Aesthetics, every treatment is carried out by a GMC-registered doctor.
Unlike non-medical practitioners, our doctors understand facial anatomy in depth. That shapes where product is placed, how risk is assessed and what happens if something goes wrong.
Lips are one part of facial balance. If you are also considering cheeks, chin or jawline, read about our dermal filler treatments in Liverpool.

Why Choose a Doctor for Lip Filler?
In the UK, lip filler is currently unregulated — meaning anyone can administer it without medical training. At Revitalise Aesthetics, every treatment is carried out by a GMC-registered doctor with a deep understanding of facial anatomy and vascular safety.
- Detailed knowledge of facial anatomy and danger zones
- Ability to manage and reverse complications immediately
- Hyaluronidase (dissolving enzyme) always available on-site
- Full medical consultation and consent process
- Registered with the GMC and fully insured
Risks and Side Effects
Every medical procedure carries risk. We would rather you read this before you book than after.
- Swelling and bruising. Usually settles within 3 to 7 days
- Tenderness at the injection sites. Usually settles within 24 to 48 hours
- Temporary unevenness while the swelling resolves
- Lumps or irregularities. These often resolve on their own and can be treated if needed
- Infection. Rare, and managed clinically
- Delayed-onset nodules. These can appear weeks or months after treatment
The most serious risk with any filler is vascular occlusion — where product is placed into a blood vessel or compresses one, restricting blood flow to the surrounding tissue. It is a medical emergency and needs immediate treatment with hyaluronidase.
This is the reason a doctor matters. Both of our doctors are GMC-registered, come from emergency medicine and are trained to recognise and manage vascular complications immediately. Hyaluronidase is held on site as standard.
Lip filler is not appropriate for everyone. We will assess your suitability and explain the risks in full at your consultation.

Most clients return to normal activity the same day. The lips themselves take around two weeks to settle.
First 24 to 48 hours. Swelling, tenderness and some bruising are normal. Your lips will look fuller now than they will once settled. Plan your treatment with that in mind — ideally not the day before an event.
Days 3 to 7. Swelling settles noticeably. You may see some unevenness during this window as different areas resolve at different rates. This is expected.
At two weeks. Your final result is visible. This is when we recommend your complimentary review appointment.
Aftercare. Avoid intense exercise, alcohol, extreme heat and pressure on the lips for at least 24 hours. Full guidance is given at your appointment and set out in our aftercare leaflet.

We apply a topical numbing cream before treatment to minimise discomfort. Most clients find the procedure very manageable and describe it as a mild pressure sensation rather than pain.
Results typically last between 6 and 12 months depending on the product used, the amount administered and your individual metabolism. We'll discuss realistic expectations at your consultation.
Our philosophy is always natural enhancement. We take time at every consultation to understand your aesthetic goals and assess what will suit your facial proportions. We will never over-fill.
Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. We always have this available on-site. This is one of the key safety advantages of using HA filler over other products.
Some swelling and mild bruising is normal in the first 24–72 hours. The full result is visible at around 2 weeks once any swelling has fully settled. You will be given personalised aftercare guidance at your appointment, and you can also read our dermal filler aftercare leaflet.
Yes, completely. Your initial consultation carries no obligation to book any treatment. We want you to feel fully informed and comfortable before committing to anything.
